Foyer
The foyer is the HWK’s main gathering area. This is where fellows and staff meet and the participants of the approximately 120 annual events come together to network or have a cup of coffee together.
Apartments
The HWK disposes of 21 apartments for up to two occupants each in the main building. The apartments are accessible from a central stairway that reaches the two floors. Public fridges are situated along some isles to provide occupants with easy access to cold drinks. (Generally speaking, fellows fully self-supply during time spent at the HWK.)
Double Apartments
All double apartments in the main building are fully furnished to a very high quality standard and offer a double bedroom, a spacious bathroom, generous living quarters with TV and stereo, as well as a kitchen and an office area.
Office space
The office space provided by each apartment easily allows the occupant(s) to conduct all their academic work in great comfort.
Living space
The living spaces in the double apartments in the main building are integrated with an open, pantry-style kitchen. The living spaces offer a television and a stereo.
Bistro
The bistro to the right of the main foyer is the central place where everyone at the HWK gathers for community events. Catering for community breakfasts (once per month) or dinners (once per week) is served here. The place also offers a public coffee machine accessible to all fellows any time and a wide selection of international newspapers.
Fireplace room
The fireplace room is the place to go to relax, have a cup of coffee, and read a good book, for instance, one of the fellow’s own publications that are on offer here. The room offers a real, glass-encircled fireplace that may be freely used by fellows in winter time to create the utmost in comfortable atmosphere.
Main lecture hall
The HWK’s main lecture hall seats up to 100 fellows, guests, and participants of the up to 120 academic events that take place at the HWK annually. It also houses the HWK’s regular, popular-scientific events directed at the general public (in German). The hall is equipped with a state-of-the-art media system that allows for fully-hybrid events of fellows, local, and international participants.
Staff & Fellows
Two boards on walls in the central foyer inform all fellows and their guests about the key means of contact for all HWK staff. They also introduce everyone to the newly-arrived fellows, their academic disciplines, home institutions, and projects.
Exhibition
The HWK is home to a number of pieces of art and houses changing exhibitions of works often created by its artists in residence.
Bridge
A bridge-like walkway connects the apartment building to the offices of the HWK’s staff. The walkway also leads to the HWK’s library and minor conference rooms.
Library
The library room that functions both as a reading room and meeting place is the highest place on the HWK’s premises. It provides connected media facilities for allow for fully-hybrid meetings of fellows with their global peers.
Your way into the garden
You leave the HWK’s foyer through this glass door and enter the spacious HWK gardens that even boast fruit trees offering their harvest to interested fellows in autumn.
Patio
The open patio is the place where many of the HWK’s networking events take place during summertime.
Garden
The spacious HWK gardens invite fellows to long walks and connect the minor buildings on the premises to the main ones. On the left is the arts pavillon dedicated to the HWK’s artists in residence. On the left in the far back is the HWK’s family house offering accommodation for up to 4 fellows and their families including children. On the far right is the wellness house featuring a sauna, fitness equipment, a ping-pong table, a yoga room, and other health-related facilities.
Arts pavillon
The arts pavillon provides a working space and atelier to those fellows who are part of the HWK’s artist in residence-program.
Office building
The separate office building provides dedicated workspaces for those fellows who prefer to work outside of their living quarters.
Family house
The HWK’s family house offers spacious accommodation for up to 4 fellows and their families including children.
Wellness house
The wellness house features a sauna, fitness equipment, a ping-pong table, a yoga room, and other health-related facilities. Its outside patio boasts a barbecue area open to fellows in the evenings.
